Net zero by 2045
Net zero means adding no more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere than the amount removed from it. We aim to reach it by 2045, five years ahead of the UK's 2050 target.
The UK has committed to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Oxylitre has committed to getting there sooner, reaching net zero by 2045 and cutting our emissions by 30% by 2035.
Our Net Zero Policy applies to all of our staff, premises, vehicles, processes and suppliers. As a small to medium sized business we are at an early stage of our transition, and it has begun: recycling is established, our supply chain is predominantly local, and we will measure and report our emissions so that our progress can be seen.
Our baseline is the financial year 2025/26 (01/04/2025 to 31/03/2026), and our progress is measured against it.
Net zero means adding no more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere than the amount removed from it. We aim to reach it by 2045, five years ahead of the UK's 2050 target.
As an interim step towards net zero, we will reduce our emissions by 30% by 2035, against our 2025/26 baseline year.
We aim to complete every action in our Net Zero Policy by 2040, ten years ahead of the UK's 2050 target.
In 2025/26, 98% of our active suppliers are UK based, and 84% of our spend on materials and components is with suppliers within a 70-mile radius of our site.
Paper and cardboard are recycled in separate managed bins, and unnecessary printing is discouraged as we move towards a paperless office. Staff are encouraged and trained to use the recycling bins provided.
The plastic grip seal and bubble bags we use in packaging are fully recyclable. Staff are expected to question whether packaging is needed at all and, where it is, to make sure it is reusable, recyclable or biodegradable.
Brass, copper, aluminium and steel from decommissioned products are stripped down, separated and recycled. Electrical and electronic waste is disposed of in line with WEEE guidelines.
All our staff are expected to use energy efficiently, from heaters and machinery to office supplies, and to walk, cycle or use public transport where practicable.
For a business of our size, the energy efficiency of our premises and equipment offers the greatest potential. Recycling is already established; the next steps focus on energy, lower-carbon transport and distribution, and working with our supply chain.
2027
Introduce digital meetings as an alternative to face-to-face meetings, and install a smart meter.
2028
Survey our suppliers to assess their readiness for net zero.
2029
Switch to a green or renewable energy supplier, and introduce waste reduction, recycling, upcycling or circular design initiatives.
2034
Buy more energy-efficient office and IT equipment.
2036
Look at achieving ISO 14001 environmental management system certification.
2040
Switch business vehicles to low emission, hybrid or electric models.
We will measure and report our carbon emissions so that our progress can be demonstrated, including to NHS and other public sector customers. Our Carbon Reduction Plan follows the UK Government PPN 006 (formerly PPN 06/21) template and technical standard.
No environmental management certification is currently held, but environmental measures are being put in place, and we will look at achieving ISO 14001 certification within the next ten years.
Our Net Zero Policy was approved by Tony Bell, Group Managing Director, on 27/05/2026. The policy, our emissions data and our progress against these actions are reviewed by management at least once a year.
